After all the spy shots and teasers, BMW has finally released the details of the new BMW Vision EfficientDynamics ahead of its scheduled debut; the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics,the full hybrid concept car is powered by a three cylinder diesel engine and two electric motors.The power and torque output of BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics concept car is 262KW and 800N-m at peak.The all wheel drive version comes with separate electric motor for front and rear axle. The expected maximum speed of BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics is 250kmph with electronic lock and it won’t take more than 4.8seconds to reach 100kmph from a standstill.

BMW’s EfficientDynamics engineering philosophy – the pursuit of an enhanced, athletic driving experience while simultaneously lowering the consumption and emissions of each vehicle – resulted in the most dramatic drop in fleet consumption of any automaker from 1990 through 2005, according to an Environmental Defense study.

BMW has released it’s first look at both a new design language and a new focus on efficient dynamics. In this case the latter means 351bhp and 590lb ft of torque. Yet this new concept gets over 60 mpg. We’ll have much more on the new Vision concept (including a video tour) in the coming days. However until now, we have pics and the official release below. Scott Griffith enters the parking lot outside his office in Cambridge, Mass., pulls out his iPhone, and taps a button on the screen. Suddenly a yellow Mini Cooper starts honking like a crazed goose. Griffith approaches the vehicle and taps the screen again. The doors magically unlock, and under the steering wheel the key dangles from a cord. He starts up the car — nicknamed “Meneus” — and drives away at a rate of $11.25 an hour.

ANDERSON MUNRO (TOKYO) – Rechargeable batteries could become the core technology for the auto industry when pure electric cars enter the mainstream — a prospect that has carmakers racing to team up with battery makers, according to a Senior Analyst with Wealth Management group Anderson Munro. Auto executives say that with fewer moving parts, easy-to-assemble electric cars may also lower the bar for entry into the cut-throat autos industry and make battery manufacturers the unlikely competitors for car giants.
