The DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center in Florida will be large enough to serve the entire city of Arcadia, whose very name suggests some kind of modern-day post-oil paradise. Here’s what the 25-megawatt facility, the largest solar installation in the U.S. with 90,000 solar panels, looks like on video: But there are clouds in the solar sky, and its name is the electric grid. President Obama, in Arcadia on October 27 , was only too happy to align himself with hopeful symbols like Arcadia and its promise of 100 percent clean utilities producing renewable electricity.

This summer, oil and gas prices surged to new highs. Oil reached $70 per barrel for the first time in history in August, boosting prices at the gas pump to $3 per gallon in many parts of the country. GM has sold a Delaware plant to Fisker to build new hybrid cars. Fisker will use the GM factory to make and sell about 100,000 hybrid electric cars per year.

It will take more time to sell the “bad” part of Northern Rock The European Union (EU) has approved plans for nationalised bank Northern Rock to be split in two – paving the way for a partial sale. One business, described as the “good” bank, would hold savers’ money, carry out new lending and hold some existing mortgages. A second “bad” bank would be set up to hold the rest of the mortgages and repay outstanding government loans .

Hybrid cars will be known as plug in electric cars in 2010 as they offer energy efficient ways to recharge its batteries. These Hybrid electric vehicles can plug in from home or work using a standard 110 volt outlet.
