  Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and NEC, an electronics manufacturer, announced last Friday that they will produce batteries for environmentally friendly cars. by Danny Green It is believed that although the existence of the Hybrid cars took place in the 1990s, they are still not a new term. This is mainly due to the fact, that about hundred years back, there were different kinds of hybrid engines and power used for travelling purposes. In the current time, a noticeable enhancement has been given to the hybrid mechanics. According to some reports, alternative fuel vehicles were developed even in 1665 when some inventors from Flanders were making experiment with the power of the steam to utilise it in their unmanned vehicles.

Fisker Automotive, Inc., the new American manufacturer of premium green automobiles, unveiled its first production car — the 2010 Fisker Karma. With a starting price of 900 (400 after US government tax credits), 1000 orders for the 100 mile-per-gallon luxury plug-in hybrid have been received since the prototype debuted at the 2008 NAIAS.

Nissan and Honda Consider Plug-in Hybrids As the long term stratergy for sustainable mobility, Nissan and Honda have been banking on electric cars and fuel cells. The executives of company are now warming up to plug-in hybrids . Hybrid cars have been repeatedly dismissed – since their introduction in the United State market in late 1999 – as a ‘bridge technology’ – an euphemism for a hybrid technology that briefly serves a purpose until it can be replaced with something longer lasting and better.

Chinese automakers may be rapidly catching up in the green car race – but the country’s environmental advancements aren’t restricted purely to the automobile. In fact, Dongfeng Electric Vehicle, a research and development arm of Chinese car manufacturer Dongfeng Motor Company, has developed a new battery management system that has been installed in its EQ6110 hybrid electric city bus – and delivers 30 per cent better fuel economy than standard city buses.  The company’s engineers were tasked with producing a battery management system in 18 months.

In an interview at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month, Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG, shared his thoughts about a future filled with fuel cell cars (weird… Honda announced that is planning to focus electric vehicles instead of fuel cells). He says that this is definitely possible but in the immediate future, it will be electric cars that will dominate.Since fuel cell cars are still in development, Zetsche said for Autonews that it is likely mild- and full-hybrid cars will fill the market “for quite some time.” Zetsche points to a new infrastructure as the key to success.
