As the nation is turning in their oil drinking clunkers and leaving car dealerships with hybrid and electric vehicles. The batteries and motors on those new vehicles, are made of a rare earth metals. Autonews.com broke the story earlier today. Our planet will be giving up more resources besides Oil.Worldwide demand for rare earths, covering 15 entries on the periodic table of elements, is expected to exceed supply by some 40,000 tons annually in several years unless major new production sources are developed.

” There are resources and there are people who are working on Energy security of the future – secured supply of Lithium and REE. Recent boom in Junior market related stocks confirms our observations .” ” With Lithium and REE previous work was funded directly or via Majors by governments in the rush of a cold war and then properties were mostly abandoned once military needs were satisfied. Extensive data and even core from previous drilling programmes could be available on sites and it is as valuable in exploration as properties itself.

BMW has jumped into hybrid auto technology in a big way. A big stupid way. They have just announced a 155mph, 356hp hybrid sports car . It’s incredibly slick-looking, in a way that can only make you gape with awe and ask . . . WTF? Seriously, dude . . . WTF? This whole thing seems to me to be good intentions gone disastrously wrong. There’s some basic physics you have to take into account in building hybrid cars: irrespective of where the power comes from, it takes a certain amount of energy of whatever kind to push a car that heavy, that fast, that far.

The new millennium marks a significant change in the way people think because of the growing concern to preserve the precious environment and hybrid cars are the perfect solution for this purpose. Hybrid cars help to save on fuel consumption and environmental degradation through pollution because they depend on electricity and not on fuel for their functioning. Hybrid cars were actually conceptualized to save the environment by depending less on conventional fuels and they were meant to be friendlier to the environment.

Wean vehicles off of one limited resource — petroleum — and get hooked on another: lithium. That’s the flag that some critics have raised about switching over to electric cars that use lithium-ion batteries, since the U.S. imports most of its lithium from Chile and Argentina, while Bolivia has enough deposits to become a major lithium provider. But amid all the hubbub about the looming lithium squeeze , another resource trend is taking shape with potential to drive some big changes in advanced battery and vehicle technology: a group of metals known as rare earth elements, or REE.

Hybrid cars account for probably less than 5% of the US Market but the demand for them has risen to over 50% over the last six years that they entered the mainstream. It’s no surprise how much of an effect they have had on the average driver and consumer but it seems that hybrid is definitely the future of the automobile industry; so much so, in fact, that it’s also not a shock to see hybrid car rental companies sprouting up here and there.

The last six years have seen the increase on demand for hybrid cars by 50%. It’s no surprise how much of an effect they have had on the average driver and consumer but it seems that hybrid is definitely the future of the automobile industry; so much so, in fact, that it’s also not a shock to see hybrid car rental companies sprouting up here and there. On the Rise Even before the introduction of electric hybrid, though, car rental companies that support environment-friendly vehicles have been around.
