An interesting post on Nissan adding “noise” to electric cars was posted on Bloomberg.com. If you remember a recent post on “ Hybrid Cars Too Quiet? Japan May Require Adding Noise ?,” there are efforts to add noises back into quiet hybrid and electric cars . Seems like we’re going backward, but there are some legitimate concerns for the vision-impaired, older citizens, and children crossing the streets not hearing cars coming. I know, I know. Some may say that this is not the problem of the quiet cars.

John B asked: Seems to me where there is little braking during an average drive in flat terrain, the battery’s would get little charging. Does this mean hybrid electric cars are less usefull in flat terrain?

If you are thinking about purchasing a hybrid vehicle, you may be listening to rather a lot of “gossip”. Some people think the hybrid car is the best thing on the market. Other people say it will just pass. Yet other people again say they think they can save a lot of money, but you’re not sure it’s really worth it. What is the truth, and how do you separate myth from fact with all of the stuff that is being thrown at you? Below, you can read and consider the usual hybrid car myths.

The term “hybrid” means that something is mixed with its original form. The hybrid is a car that has both an electric and a gas motor to run it. But, unlike electric cars of yesteryear, the hybrid will recharge itself, hence no need to plug it into an outlet. The gasoline engines in these cars are smaller than in standard vehicles and where they leave off the electric engine takes over. The hybrid can work on just one of these engines, but hybrid owners will use both to conserve on fuel.

Electric Cars At Frankfurt Motor Show Nowadays Electric Cars was not just limited to small cars. For example, in Frankfurt Motor Show – Mercedes and Audi , two of German giants, unveiled electric supercars they plan to build in 2013. They have 4-motor 4-wheel drive systems (one at each wheel), and with silent acceleration they claim they’re true supercar performance . Both goal at a range of 150 miles or so in the official EC drive cycle. Though if you used the performance the range would of course be ‘plenty’ less.

Through all of the cars that are on the market, you can be thinking that there have to be a car you haven’t discovered yet. You’ve heard of convertibles, Mazdas, Fords, and Buicks. And, you being an educated car-buyer, know all regarding hybrid cars, too. But for sure, you consider to yourself, there must be a other fuel-efficient car than a hybrid. If only you could find it. This vehicle that you believe is more fuel-effective than a hybrid car, must be hidden in the back of a dealership behind the red, green, and yellow cars.

by Edmunds.com Green Car Advisor on September 18, 2009 Toshiyuki Tabata spent 30 years as a Nissan Motor Co. engineer trying to make gasoline-powered cars quieter. Now he’s consulting music composers to make electric cars noisier — and safer. An article published by Bloomberg news service today addresses the efforts Tabata in particular and automakers in general are making to make electric and hybrid cars, with little or no engine noise, safer for pedestrians.

One day, drivers might download “vroomtones” for their cars, the way they download ringtones for cell phones today. After years of complaints from blind pedestrians that ultra-quiet hybrid cars pose a safety threat, the auto industry is responding by producing on-board devices that emit sound. Nissan is considering using a high- pitched science fiction sound for its upcoming all-electric Nissan Leaf . The Fisker Karma luxury plug-in hybrid might use a sound halfway between a jet engine and an F1 racecar.
