We all know that something needs to be done about the state of our environment. After all, if we continue the trend that we have started of polluting and damaging the world around us, it may not be able to continue to provide us with the healthy elements we require for a healthy life. But solutions to the environmental issues are few and far between. Take our transportation situation, for example. We have become a society that is increasingly dependent on the use of cars to get around, as our world and neighborhoods have become bigger and more spread out.

by Emil VenereResearchers have determined precisely how fluid boils in tiny “microchannels,” creating formulas and models that will help engineers design systems to cool high-power electronics in electric and hybrid cars, aircraft, computers, and other applications. Here, Purdue University doctoral student Tannaz Harirchian holds up special chips provided by Delphi Electronics and Safety that she and Professor Suresh Garimella used to simulate what happens in a real chip.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Understanding precisely how fluid boils in tiny “microchannels” has led to formulas and models that will help engineers design systems to cool high-power electronics in electric and hybrid cars, aircraft, computers and other devices. Allowing a liquid to boil in cooling systems dramatically increases how much heat can be removed, compared to simply heating a liquid to below its boiling point, said Suresh Garimella, the R. Eugene and Susie E.

One of the pleasant side effects of electric vehicles is that their motorless operation means a reduce in noise pollution. While one here or there won’t add up to much of anything, the difference when considering an entire city full of silent electric vehicles becomes quite apparent. Gone would be the annoying sounds of idling cars. Imagine how odd it would be to be standing in the middle of Times Square and see hundreds of cars whizzing buy, except all you could hear would be faint tire noise, people talking, and birds chirping.

by Colin Jones If you are considering purchasing a hybrid car, you may be listening to rather a lot of “gossip”. Some people think the hybrid car is the best thing since sliced bread. Some people say it will just pass. Still other people again say they think they can save a lot of money, but you’re not sure it’s really worth it. What is the truth, and how do you separate fact from fiction with all of the stuff that is being said to you? Below, you can read and consider the common hybrid car myths.

Slashdhot : “A campaign backed by automakers and some lawmakers to make electric or hybrid cars noisier in a bid to increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists has taken a strange, Blade Runner -type twist. Nissan sound engineers have announced that the Leaf electric car set for release next year will emit a ‘beautiful and futuristic’ noise similar to the sound of flying cars — or ’spinners’ — that buzz around 2019 Los Angeles in Ridley Scott’s dystopian thriller based on a Philip K.
