The all electric Hyundai i10 will show at Frankfurt (click for bigger image)Hyundai has revealed the Electric Hyundai i10 ahead of its launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show Yet another push forward from Hyundai, this time with an all electric version of the ‘King of Scrappage’ i10 – the Hyundai i10 Electric. This is a bit of a surprise from Hyundai, as they’d always said they would concentrate on hybrids until hydrogen fuel cell technology was advanced enough to make it viable in a budget car.

Toyota Could Gain Advantage China is tightening grip on its rare earth metals, which may derail production of hybrid and electric cars, according to The New York Times and Bloomberg . Hybrid cars use rare metals, especially neodymium for magnets in electric motors, and lanthanum in nickel metal hydride batteries. A mineral facility in Mountain Pass, Calif., the richest rare earth deposit in the world, could supply all the necessary rare earth metals for hybrid and electric cars.

At this year’s North American International Auto Show, Mercedes Benz unveiled the Concept BlueZERO for electric vehicles. Now the company has provided additional details about the idea. The concept is based on a single vehicle architecture and supports three models with different drive configurations: the BlueZERO E-CELL with battery electric drive; the BlueZERO F-CELL; and the BlueZERO E-CELL PLUS with electric drive and internal combustion engine range extender.

Everyone was shocked when GM took a gigantic government bailout. What was equally shocking to me was to see GM claim that in 2010, they would have a car capable of 230 mpg. Well, as we all know everything is not always as it seems. When I came across this article by Adrian Veidt, Senior Editor of Casey’s Extraordinary Technology I thought I would share it with you and get your take.

We know, we know, electric cars use too much rare earth metals. We just wrote about it below. But that’s not going to stop us from covering the next ultra cool electric triple hybrid diesel plugin etc. tour de force vehicle.That’s just what we need. All these companies coming out with zero emission stuff that runs on one thing or another, that’s either a hybrid or it’s not, that’s hydrogen and nothing else, that’s plug in and that’s it, and now BMW comes with this technological orgy that combines EVERYTHING and then actually succeeds in sticking the entire mess under one hood.

For many years now, private cars have been a favourite target of environmental campaigners, mainly due to the harmful emissions that all internal-combustion engines release into the atmosphere.
